X-Ray Patient Information
Your doctor has requested an X-ray. Here are the answers to some frequently asked questions.
What is an X-Ray?
An X-ray is an imaging technique which uses low dose radiation to show various regions of the body. Your doctor will indicate to us which region needs to be imaged.
Why is an X-Ray necessary?
X-rays are necessary to show images of abnormalities that cannot be seen from outside the body, such as broken bones (fractures) or shadows on the lungs.
How is an X-Ray performed?
You will be asked to lie on a table or stand against an imaging plate. During this time you will need to remain very still to keep the image clear.
You will need to remove any jewellery or clothing that will interfere with the X-rays.
Is an X-Ray safe?
The dose of radiation is always kept as low as possible, however women who are pregnant should not have an X-ray. If you think you may be pregnant please inform the staff prior to your examination.
Are there any special instructions I need to follow before an X-Ray?
No, generally there will be no special instructions before the X-ray unless specified otherwise.
How long will the X-Ray take?
An X-ray usually only takes about 15 minutes to complete.
How long does it take for the doctor to receive the result?
Results should be with your doctor within the same day.
