What is a 3T MRI?

Our Xplore Radiology Griffith location is proud to offer our patients the highest care in medical imaging with our 3T MRI machine. 

MRI machines traditionally operate at a strength of 1.5 Teslas (T). This measurement indicates the strength of the magnetic field. A 3T MRI features a magnet that is double the strength of a traditional 1.5T MRI. This increase in strength provides exceptionally clear, high quality imaging of organs and soft tissue. 

The Benefits of 3T MRI Scanning 

Our 3T MRI scanners provide a greater range of scanning options, with imaging that is unavailable using traditional, lower strength MRI scanners. This provides doctors with higher detailed imaging to assist with complex diagnoses. 

MRIs are generally suited for scans of brain, spine and musculoskeletal conditions. However, 3T MRIs can now scan for conditions such as prostate cancer. The higher quality imaging is also useful in detecting small abnormalities and joint fractures. Ligaments, tendons and cartilage can now be scanned and the detailed images used to assess joint stability. 

The reliability of high-field MRI allows our radiologists to confidently differentiate between benign and potentially hazardous medical conditions, providing patients with potentially earlier diagnosis and treatment. 

3T MRIs are also much faster. Developed to significantly increase the efficiency of scans, 3T MRI reduces scan times and maximises patient comfort without compromising quality. There is also less chance of producing low quality images, meaning patients can avoid the need to repeat scans.
